TBW at the Capitol

We had a great turnout for our first-in-a-long-while Legislative Days on March 6th.

Monday morning began with presentations from Eva DeLuna Castro from the Center for Public Priority Policy and Kate Bahn from the Center for American Progress.

After lunch, we went to the Capitol to meet with Representative Ina Minjarez, Representative Gina Hinojosa, and Representative Mary Gonzalez in the Agriculture Museum, a hallowed room on the first floor of the Capitol. We were honored that Senator Leticia Van de Putte unexpectedly joined us for a while. All four women are working hard in Austin for Texas and especially for Legislation that will benefit Texas women and families.

Equal Pay Day Challenge

April 4, 2017 is Equal Pay Day, which symbolizes how far into the current year a woman must work to earn the same money that a man made in the previous calendar year.

It’s not as confusing as it sounds. On average, women earn $0.79 per $1.00 that men earn. Doesn’t sound like much, except that you multiply that by 40 or so years and it adds up to a chunk of change. Plus women are losing out on matching retirement benefits on the discrepancy.

The Challenge: Let us know what you do on Equal Pay Day to spread awareness and fight to end the wage gap.

We want to see your photos and proclamations and whatever else you have that commemorates the day.
