Texas Business Women

Texas Business Women is a statewide organization of professional women who benefit from collective power. We help women grow their careers through education, networking and community outreach.

Texas Business Women has a rich history going back nearly 100 years. The organization has worked to confront the challenges of equal participation in civic life. TBW was deeply engaged in working to secure the right to vote; to pass Title IX, offering women full access to education; the right to financial autonomy; and continued advocacy to secure paycheck fairness. TBW also was instrumental in the creation of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Hospital in Houston, and continues to support this world-class institution.

Today, TBW turns its attention to the fundamental issue of technology. Adapting to innovation gives us more leverage and greater market value. More women are becoming entrepreneurs and need strong technological skills to succeed. We help women develop the skills they need to excel in their professional and personal lives.

We also provide the opportunity for women to learn and grow in a safe, supportive environment. There’s power in numbers and we support all women from all walks of life. Welcome to TBW. We’re women, connected.

Vision and Mission

A. The vision of Texas Business Women, Inc. is to provide women with the tools to succeed in a competitive and evolving environment.
B. TBW’s mission is to enhance women’s personal and professional skills through technology, networking and advocacy.

State Leadership

BPW Board of Directors

Texas Business Women is based solely in Texas. The TBW Board of Directors is comprised of elected officers: President, President-Elect, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The President also appoints a Parliamentarian to serve.

Local Organizations

TBW is made up of eMembers and Local Organizations (LO). An LO is a group of TBW members within a certain geographic area. Leadership of the LO’s is made up of officers, a board of directors, and committee chairs. Each LO bases their annual plans on the statewide Action Plan.

Local Organizations often hold monthly program meetings, offer scholarships, and provide networking opportunities. When you join a Local Organization, you are automatically a member of TBW statewide.

TBW works hard to ensure equal rights and pay for all women. Over the course of our history, our members have been part of several successful advocacy campaigns including the Texas Equal Legal Rights Amendment.

TBW promotes equity and economic self‐sufficiency for women and their families.

We believe in pay equity, and that equal educational and economic opportunities at all stages of life are essential. We will work to promote affordable, quality dependent care to help ensure economic self-‐sufficiency for women.

We believe that affordable and effective health care, medical insurance coverage, and family planning must be available for all women and their families. Further, we will work to ensure funds for research into women’s health care needs.

We believe that every woman should be able to live free from tyranny, exploitation and enslavement. We will work to eliminate sexual harassment and violence against women and children. As Texas is home to major human trafficking corridors, we will work to prevent this horrific crime against women and children in our state.

We believe that the Equal Rights Amendment, as authored by Alice Paul, shall stand first, foremost and above all other items un0l legal rights for women and men become guaranteed in the United States Constitution, because all statutory law derives there from. It reads: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.” We will actively work for the election of and/or appointment to policy-‐making positions for those who support the TBW Legislative Platform. We will encourage active participation of all women in government and the voting process.
